FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q:

What is the bail process?
Once someone is arrested and booked on a criminal charge, that person may be held in jail for trial unless he furnishes a required bail amount. This amount is set by the magistrate, in accordance with the seriousness of the offense and the "flight" risk involved, in order to ensure that the charged individual shows up to court to respond to the charges made against him. Bail may be posted with the court in several ways, usually in the form of cash or property, or by using a professional bondsman. Grumpy's HIGHLY recommends opting to use a professional bondsman posting a secured bond. Making the right choice to use Grumpy's not only satisfies the bail amount but also warrants almost immediate release from jail.

How do I use a bondsman?
You may call Grumpy's at any time to arrange your bond. But, normally after being booked, a Grumpy's agent will meet with you and your co-signer at the jail and enter into a contractual agreement, subject to approval. Grumpy's bond fee is 10% of your bond, plus tax. Upon full payment, you will be released from jail.

Why would I choose a bail bondsman instead of posting the entire amount of bail myself?
Most people don't have readily available the entire bail amount and are anxious to get out of jail. Therefore, by using Grumpy's, you can secure almost immediate release. Also, posting the entire bail amount with the court would "tie up" your funds until a final disposition is reached in your case.

How long am I obligated to my bondsman, and what are my obligations to him after being bonded out of jail?
Grumpy's Bail Bonding is responsible and liable for each defendant until a final disposition is reached in the case. Specific obligations include: showing up on time to every scheduled court appearance; paying the bond fee in full; notifying the bondsman if arrested anywhere while out on bond; and informing the bondsman of any changes in address or phone number, or before traveling outside the jurisdiction. Failure to fulfill any of these obligations could result in Grumpy's revoking the bond.

If I retain an attorney, is it necessary for me to keep in touch with my bondsman?
Most definitely! Grumpy's is the surety on your bond and needs to be kept informed of everything! Grumpy's will always be looking out for your well-being; thus, it's important to keep close communication with Grumpy's until your case is resolved.

What happens if I miss any of my court appearances?
Normally, the judge will issue a warrant for your arrest and your name could be placed in the NCIC. Also, you could be charged with an additional felony failure-to-appear charge, and Mr. Grumpy will have no choice but to locate and arrest you.
